How We Started Working Together
Kush found Click Hive through our LinkedIn 6 months ago. He followed and resonated with our posts back then, which mostly talked about the challenges of an eCommerce business.
Even though Kush was kind enough to give marketers who cold-called them an opportunity to present their service, he never really moved forward after the first call with most of them.
Why?
“Because you can tell that they're just in it to get that first payment and then just hand you off to a team and that's it. I've dealt with a lot of agencies in the past, but I think when we chatted on the first call, I think you were quite straightforward.”, said Kush.
Click Hive Review: Kush’s Experience Working With Us
This is one important part we want to dive into. Kush said most agencies just take your money and hand over the work to someone else. This is why you must be careful when selecting an advertising agency.
But the reason he chose us was the fact that we were straightforward.

We’re very clear about the processes involved, so you get a detailed look into how we work. That means you’ll have direct communication with all our team members, so communication is very easy and fast.
According to Kush, we are “Very clear on the process, on the onboarding process, and the ongoing engagement with me or with the brand. And I liked the fact that you were quite open to the fee model, the structure of how we work together in terms of the retainer and how we pay you.”
It’s not just the paycheck that matters to us. We’re genuine about the work we do, pushing us to actually help a brand rather than just bombard you with vanity metrics.
The Onboarding Experience
“I don't think there were any problems with the onboarding. It was quite clear. We got onto the Slack channel and the communication on there was very clear. You added me to the team channel, and I was clear on who does what, who's responsible for the content, for the copywriting, for the campaigns and so on. So I would say, yeah, quite a smooth onboarding process and didn't require too much of my time.” - Kush.
We believe it’s a good sign when a client doesn’t remember the onboarding process. There’s a basic questionnaire involved that helps us understand the nooks and crannies of your brand, but other than that, there’s nothing big enough to waste your time.

Our Core Service Delivery
For Kitu Kali, we provided them three core services:
Ad creatives.
Media buying.
And being a Kenyan fashion brand, they’re very different from the European or the US market, which is where most of our clients are. So, there was a transition period in the beginning, to learn and understand the language, style, and tone of Kitu Kali.
“It took a couple of tries for the team to understand the language and how we localize stuff. But the team picked it up very quickly, I must say. And from the first two times that I gave my feedback, I think after that, I was not saying to change this, change that. Maybe a few minor things here and there.” - Kush.
When it comes to ad creative, we leverage both AI and human expertise to craft the best possible content, geared to perform well as ads.
And we did come up with some amazing ad creatives for Kitu Kali.
“In the past, when I worked with different agencies, it's kind of just a lift and shift, take it from our website or from Instagram and just push it onto an ad and hope that it works.” - Kush.

“I liked the creativity. I like the fact that you guys actually tailored it and created nice graphics using the main products as the sort of focus of the creative, but also adding, hooks, hints, and colours. I think the graphic design was very, very good on the creatives.” - Kush.
Feedback from the client side is important here. To get to a point where we make ad creatives that you’re fully satisfied with, we need to learn the brand inside out. And feedback is one great way for us to learn about your brand.
We’re fully open to criticism. We always give our clients the freedom to nitpick our work. Because that’s how we learn a brand and become part of it.
Communication
Although a very important part of working together, most agencies fail to get their communication right. There are delays, misunderstandings, and whatnot.
But we try to keep communication easy at Click Hive. One way we do this is by keeping everyone connected. So, when you want to pass feedback to our graphic designer, you can do that directly without having to go through a ladder of managerial people.
That eliminates misunderstandings, and makes communication faster and easier.
“I think from your side, once I was asking questions or giving my feedback, the communication was very fast and the iterations were fast. Maybe sometimes some of the campaigns which I understand take some time to set up and the creatives take some time to set up. Which is okay, but maybe could be speedened up a bit so that we're getting campaigns live quicker. That wasn't a big issue, to be honest. The communication was fine.” - Kush.
Kush did mention he’d appreciate faster communication all the time. We hear you, Kush, and we will work on rectifying that!
This is one reason why we keep calling ourselves honest. We could’ve taken that part out for the sake of this article, but that’s not the right thing to do.

Kush’s Comment on Click Hive’s Performance

“From a driving quality traffic perspective, I think that worked well, and we saw good increases in performance, where the market was favourable and where we had enough stock on certain products.” - Kush.
We had a really good time working with Kitu Kali. And when you’re hiring an agency, you expect them to be self-sufficient, right? Otherwise, you could just be paying a freelancer, and then manage them yourself. Or you could just do it yourself than hire a professional in the first place.
But an agency takes that headache off you because it itself is a whole team of managers, editors, and writers. That’s what we do day in and day out.
“I was happy in that I didn't have to do much. And that's what I would expect from an agency if I'm outsourcing the entire process is I don't have to be too involved. I don't have to keep questioning things. I just have to trust that you guys are looking at it, optimizing, checking the data and working on the campaigns and coming up with new creatives, which is exactly what you guys were doing. So yeah, I was quite happy with that.” - Kush.
Kush mentioned this was something he found surprising when working with us…
“The surprising thing is the fact that I was quite hands-off. I typically am very hands-on, and following up with where's this and where's that and can we do about this. But I was not doing a lot of that, which was surprising and good. Surprising in a good way.” - Kush.
Click Hive vs. Other Marketing Agencies
“It's been a better engagement with you guys. I liked the fact that you're not too aggressive in terms of ad spend. What I've seen in the past is, you know, agencies creating campaigns and saying, we need to up ad spend 10x, and before I know, from spending 50 pounds a day, I'm spending 500 pounds a day. Within three or four days, I'm two grand down with 0.2x ROAS.” - Kush.
It’s true that most marketing agencies just push brands to increase their advertising budget and hope for the best. That’s not the right way to advertise.
There is a sweet spot that we go by. Nothing too low or too high. We go high when we get winning campaigns that have the potential to scale further.
This eliminates aggressive spending, and keeps your money as safe as it can be when advertising your brand.
“I liked the fact that you guys took it step by step and weren't too aggressive. In fact, I was saying let's up the ad spend at certain points, but you know, I quite liked that. So yeah, I don't have anything negative compared to some of the other agencies that I've worked with.” - Kush.
This is especially important when you’re starting a new partnership, where you just don’t know what to expect. So, it would be always more comfortable to you as a business owner to up the spend later on, after you’ve witnessed what the agency can do for you.
Kush’s Recommendation for Business Owners
In the end, we asked Kush what his honest opinion is to inform other eCommerce owners who are contemplating working with Click Hive.
A crucial point he mentioned was to get your own business fundamentals in order before outsourcing any of the marketing stuff:
Make sure your website is set up well.
Nail your UI/UX.
Ensure your stock levels are good.
According to Kush, only then should you consider working with Click Hive, or any other marketing agency for that matter, as it will help you avoid the common mistakes of outsourcing marketing tasks.
“Definitely, Click Hive would be one that you should trial and see and work with. If you're on the edge because of fees, then just have an open conversation. I'm sure you guys, like we did, we came up with a great model that works for both of us. I'm sure you would definitely come up with something that works for both of you and go for it.” - Kush.
