Let's dig deeper into QuillBot then.
What is QuillBot?
QuillBot is an AI writing assistant that can proofread, rewrite, and help you with many other AI features to make writing easier for you.
These are all the features it has to offer:
Rewriting/paraphrasing.
Proofreading/grammar checking.
Plagiarism checking.
AI detection.
Translation.
Citation generation.
It's pretty much an all-in-one writing tool that can help you write better online.
5 Key Features of QuillBot
This AI writing assistant is loaded with features to help you write better, faster. Some of them are very neat and do work very well, while some seem to be disappointing so far.
In this section, I'll outline the strongest features of QuillBot that are executed well.
1. Proofreading

QuillBot does the most basic feature of a writing assistant just right. It actively checks for all sorts of writing errors (grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.) and underlines them based on the level of error you've made.
You can easily resolve the errors by hovering over the underlined text and clicking the corrected version of it suggested by QuillBot.

Another major feature (something QuillBot is most known for) is its rewriting capability. You can easily rewrite/paraphrase any selected sentence into a tone and style of your choice.
This is, in fact, QuillBot's USP, although other writing assistants also have it but they don't push it as much. However, compared to them, QuillBot does do it fairly well without making it overwhelming or complicated.

You most likely won't have to worry about plagiarism if you're writing manually from scratch. But it doesn't hurt to check anyway, right?
QuillBot will take care of that check for you. Just paste your content into the tool, and it will search the entire internet for matches.
You'll see:
Exact matches.
Identical content.
Source of plagiarised content.
QuillBot will clearly highlight all text that is plagiarised, which you can edit to make it plagiarism-free.
4. Compatibility

QuillBot perfectly supports every device, including browsers.
You can get its browser extension here:
You can get the QuillBot app here:
Even better, it also has a dedicated add-on for MS Word online and app versions.
5. Languages
QuillBot supports 50+ languages across its proofreading, rewriting, and translation features.
Includes widely used languages like English (and its different dialects), Chinese, Spanish, etc.
QuillBot Review: Pros & Cons
Pros
Easy to use: QuillBot’s interface and extensions are intuitive and uncluttered. New users can jump right in, and community feedback often calls it “so easy to use”.
Neat paraphrasing: Its AI-driven paraphraser generally produces fluent, context-aware rewrites. It understands the context of your writing and rewrites content to improve quality
Proofreading: QuillBot includes a robust proofreading feature, which is highly accurate at catching all sorts of errors.
Flexible modes & languages: It offers many paraphrase modes (Standard, Fluency, Formal, Creative, Shorten, Expand, etc.) so you can adjust tone and length. QuillBot also supports 50+ languages, making it useful for non-English writing.
Integration: QuillBot neatly works where you write, thanks to its browser extensions, app versions, and MS Word add-ons.
Affordability: QuillBot is one of the most affordable AI writing assistants you can get, costing as low as $4.17 USD/month for the Premium version.
Cons
Tone inconsistencies: QuillBot may not always preserve the writer’s original tone. Depending on the mode, it can shift your voice to be more formal, simpler, or more creative, which is helpful but could also lead to a mismatch in style. There is no built-in tone analyser, so you may need to manually adjust the tone afterwards.
Bugs: While it is an easy-to-use writing assistant, I often faced some bugs/technical glitches while using it for a whole year for work. The extension would run wild when I'm working with long documents, sometimes missing certain errors or changing unflagged texts when I accept its proofreading suggestions.
QuillBot is a super affordable writing assistant, with a Free and Premium version available. The free plan is suitable if you're doing very light work and need just basic proofreading help.
But if you need it for work, or you write more than a couple of hundred words a day, you'll have to get the paid plan. From my experience, this is worth it for what you get!
Free
Paraphrase up to 125 words.
Paraphrase in 2 modes.
Basic grammar proofreading.
Humanise text in Basic mode.
Generate basic summaries.
AI Detector (up to 1,200 words).
Premium ($9.95/month)
Paraphrase unlimited text.
Paraphrase in unlimited modes.
Advanced proofreading.
Humanise text in Advanced mode.
Create custom summaries
AI Detector (unlimited words)
Plagiarism checker.
You can get it for a lot cheaper when paid for a longer tenure:
33% OFF when paid quarterly ($6.65/month).
58% OFF when paid annually ($4.17/month).
QuillBot vs Grammarly
When it comes to comparing QuillBot with the widely used Grammarly, I'd honestly prefer QuillBot.
This is solely because QuillBot is worth it for what it does. It doesn't do anything more or less.
However, after using Grammarly for nearly 5 years, I'd say it has quite a lot of features that are unnecessary for many of us. Plus, those features can be overwhelming, and Grammarly most often crashes with bugs or glitches way more than QuillBot does.
Couple that with its pricing, you're basically forced to pay a lot more just because Grammarly comes bundled with an overwhelming number of features that many of us won't even bother trying.
QuillBot vs LanguageTool
In my LanguageTool review, I mentioned it's a light and convenient proofreading tool to automate the basics of writing.
If you know how to write well, you probably wouldn't prefer AI to alter too much of your work. LanguageTool is suitable for that group of people who want the creative freedom with basic proofreading assistance.
Plus, LanguageTool provides a clean, user-friendly, minimalistic experience, with little to no glitches or bugs. That's what made me switch from QuillBot to LanguageTool.
QuillBot is a more advanced writing assistant that's more suitable for people who need extra features on top of basic proofreading.
QuillBot Review: Final Verdict & Rating
Coming to the final verdict of this QuillBot review, I'd like to call QuillBot an intermediate AI writing assistant.
If you ignore the random bugs and glitches in the browser extension, QuillBot really does do a great job at helping writers with AI-powered features.
I personally prefer LanguageTool since I only want the basic proofreading help. For anyone that wants more advanced support, QuillBot will perfectly fit your needs.
It is super cheap and a total value for money!
That said, considering its pricing, features, and functionality, I'm rating QuillBot a solid 4/5.
